Marcos Sorato takes the reigns at MFK Tyumen!

18 Jul

Milenio Sports client Marcos Sorato began his new life in Russia as Head Coach of MFK Tyumen this week in the Russian Futsal Premier League.

We caught up with him for quick chat in what has been a busy first week of pre season at his new home in Russia.

Marcos you began a new chapter your career joining MFK Tyumen last Monday. You must be excited about it?

Yes, I am excited about it for sure. After 8 years with the Brazil National Team, it is a real challenge. All the titles I have won as National Coach of Brazil while great are all in the past now and I must prove myself here with a new city, a new club and a new culture.

Have you been to Tyumen before? What do you think of the city?

Yes I have been here before once with Brazil and then of course I was here for the Russian Futsal Cup final last April. It’s a lovely city with great people. There are over 600,000 people living here and despite the cold in winter everything functions really well. Over time I am really looking forward to getting to know the city well and its people. I intend to integrate as fast as I can to Tyumen and to really appreciate and understand the spirit of the city and its people.

What do you think of the current squad of players MFK Tyumen?

We have a good blend of youth and experience with our home based players and this is complimented by some good foreign players too. I am really excited about what we have here both in terms of the players and the support staff.

Will there be new signings for next season?

One step at a time! We need to all bond as team and staff first and then let’s see where we are later in the year if we need new players or not.

Will you introduce a Brazilian style futsal as MFK Tyumen?

No not just the Brazilian style. I believe in a universal style of Futsal and that is what I will implement here in Tyumen …a combination of what I have learned in Spain over a long time as a player, of what I have learned growing up in Brazil as a player and then a coach and what I will learn and already know from the Russian style. I will combine all three styles here as these are the three top Futsal ideologies at present I believe.

What do you think is the current state of Futsal in Russia. Do you think Russia can win the FIFA Futsal World Cup in the near future?

Yes I do without a doubt. I believe Russian can be FIFA World Champions ..why not? They are the best after Brazil and Spain and it would be great for the growth of Futsal in Russia if Russia were to achieve this.

What is your main goal with the MFK Tyumen this season?

Getting the absolute maximum possible from what we have here ….and that means competing for titles.

Finally, do you have a message for Russian Futsal fans that are excited to see you arriving in Russia this week?

Yes. I have come to learn from Russia and my wish is to develop a strong legacy for Russian Futsal and to pass on all that I have learned in 26 years as a Futsal professional both as a player and a coach. I want to develop still further and create incredible memories here for the people of Tyumen and Russia.
